Guye Peak winter attempt
Lazy entry,
Attempted a winter climb of Guye Peak. The day was mostly cloudy and foggy in the morning. The avy danger was moderate for all levels. NWAC advisory highlighted that the sun was coming out and wet loose were more likely to happen.
We had a bunch of pinwheels to show for snow instability and after hesitating to cross a steep slope that had a nasty terrain trap we saw a small slide.
We continued our way until about 200 ft below the summit, where the snow transitioned abruptly to hard ice. We decided to turn around as not everybody in the group had crampons.
We went back to the saddle to have lunch
We encountered some skiers and had some nice conversation. We also got to enjoy some very tasty cookies from Sherrie.
